Clutch

Slipping, juddering, or a pedal that won't disengage? Manual clutches don't fix themselves — but we can fix them.

Overview

A clutch is a wear item, and depending on how the car has been driven, it can last from 80,000 km to well over 200,000 km. When it starts to slip — the engine revs but the car doesn't accelerate the same — it's already on borrowed time. Catching it early often saves the flywheel from being damaged at the same time, which is a much bigger bill.

We replace clutches on everything from hot hatches and utes through to fleet diesels. Where the flywheel is OK, we machine and reuse it. Where it's heat-damaged or warped, we replace it. Either way you get a fixed quote up front, and a clutch that lasts.

What we cover

  • Clutch kit replacement — plate, cover and release bearing
  • Flywheel machining or replacement as needed
  • Dual-mass flywheel (DMF) replacement
  • Clutch hydraulic master and slave cylinder repair
  • Clutch hose, pipe and bleed-port work
  • Pedal-feel adjustment and biting-point setup
  • Sourcing genuine or OEM-quality kits for your make

Could be your clutch if…

  • Engine revs climb but car doesn't accelerate to match
  • Burning smell after climbing a hill or stop-start traffic
  • Pedal goes to the floor and doesn't come back
  • Hard to get into gear — especially first or reverse from stationary
  • Juddering or shuddering as the clutch engages
  • Clutch pedal feels much lighter or much heavier than usual

Our approach

We test-drive the car to confirm the symptoms and check the hydraulic system. From there we give you a fixed quote — clutch kit only, or kit plus flywheel — and replace it cleanly. Most clutch jobs are turned around within a couple of days.

Why us, here in Kapiti

We always inspect the flywheel and the rear engine seal while we're in there. Putting a fresh clutch onto a damaged flywheel is throwing money away, and that's a conversation we'd rather have before the job starts.
